Scunthorpe RUFC was founded in 1929. The formed club rented a field from a local farmer at cost of £8 per season. Scunthorpe rugby club has come long way since the old days when 33 players were on the books. A certain Mr Heslam donated the ground and had the playing ground levelled and made it suitable for rugby and cricket. He gave the ground it's name and become very well known of Heslam Park home of Scunthorpe Rugby Club and The Barbarians.

The club began to grow more teams wer formed, tours were organised and changing and social facilities were added. During 50's and 60's Scunthorpe Rugby Club relied on influx of players. mainly steelworkers. In 1960 an under 19's Colts team was introduced which showed talents of local schoolboys which produced the future first team.

Two great seasons in early 70's brought the Notts Lincs and Derby Cup to Scunthorpe for the first time. In 1977 mini and junior rugby was started and has brought big numbers of children to the game of rugby to Scunthorpe. Which has brought flow of talent through to mini, juniors, colts and the seniors.
