North Lincolnshire museum offers a fun day for the whole family, discover the past that has formed North Lincolnshire through out the years shown through many interactive exhibits. The museum displays show the changes in the region and how the lives have changed for local people. Some of the collections included are:
Archaeology collections
Scunthorpe has a rich heritage, all periods of the past are represented in the collections, finds from excavations and field projects and strays just found. Included are bronze age Appleby log boat, The Norman lead and Barnetby font, and Bailiffs Wand of office from the time of Henry VIII. Community archaeology including field walking continues at Scunthorpe museum every year thousands of objects are found. Many are found by metal detectors but others are found while people at work or just out walking. North Lincolnshire museum has had over 6,000 finds made by over 400 individuals. A great success has been discovering a lot of Anglo-Saxon and Viking material which is giving new insights into these periods.
North Lincolnshire has a liaison officer available to record your finds, whether be a single item or a small collect
ion. If you think you have something worth bringing in then do so. The liaison officer books in the items you find and gives you a receipt, Photograph the items, enters details on antique database, arrange for return of your find. Scunthorpe museum also has a special finds day on last Saturday in every month. Anyone can bring their finds to the session for an opinion.

Decorative arts
This exhibit consists of male and female costumes and accessories, decorative home wear with furniture and soft furnishings and various works of arts. Highlights include sketches of Roman mosaics by local antiquarian William Fowler. A Lincolnshire bonnet, clothing from wardrobe of John Parkinson 1754-1840. The local history collection features historic photographs telling history of Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire. Photographic archive is one of most important in the region. It’s a permanent record of changes that have happened in North Lincolnshire from around 1850 to present day.
Natural History
This represents the biology and geology of North Lincolnshire. Geology collections are fossils with ammonite collection been most important. Also has rock and minerals collections, as well as biology collection that include Butterflies, birds, mammals and other animals. Also collections of plants and shells discovered in the area.
Social History
Consists of objects related to our community, domestic and personal and working life in Scunthorpe. Types of objects you can expect to see are Agricultural and rural craft tools, household items, items relating to different forms of transport, medical equipment and toys. Just some items are Haxey Hood and plough Jag, Normanby estate fire engine and First Johnsons motorcycle.
Learning zone
North Lincolnshire museum learning zone is very important part of what they do. Throughout the school term they offer an exciting range of hands on and engaging primary school workshops. In the school holidays learning at the museum continues with fun holiday craft activities inspired by there exhibitions. Museum is also working on projects with new audiences throughout the region. Room hire
North Lincolnshire museum learning zone room is available to hire for meetings, training courses seminars and talks. Room available to hire from 8.30am daily and can be hired evenings and weekends. Upto 60 people can be accommodated and they can provide refreshments and arrange outdoor catering.

How to get there
By car: The map below shows the principal routes into Scunthorpe. There is a free car park for visitors behind the museum, which is open between 10am and 4pm.

By train: The railway station is just a two minute walk from the museum. Turn left out of the station, walk up to the road junction and the museum is in the gardens on the opposite corner.
By bus: The bus station is in the town centre. Walk back through the shopping centre to the main street, turning left when you reach it. Walk up until you reach the traffic lights. Turn left again and the museum is just a five minute walk away on the right.
